LED lights may grab all the headlines in the contemporary lighting world due to their efficiency and eco-friendly benefits, but they don’t necessarily score top points in every aspect of lighting. Halogen bulbs, for example, have continuously outperformed LED lights when it comes to their dimming ability and their colour rendering index (CRI) scores.
However, due to advances in LED technology, a series of new LED lights have been developed by Lutron and Orluna that are able to match the capabilities of traditional halogen lighting.
Dimming with LED Lights
Traditionally, dimming LED lights has been difficult due to the amount of extra circuitry involved in the build which makes it more or less impossible to directly reduce the amount of light emitted. Consumers haven’t been too bothered so far due to the cost savings that LED lights generate, but there comes a point where technology needs to advance. And this is now a reality with, for example, Orluna’s innovatively designed LED lights which can dim their LED lights to 0.1% of their initial light input. It’s all made possible thanks to ‘mode impulse’ technology which provides multi-position dimming options.
The Importance of CRI
CRI may sound a relatively foreign concept, but its importance in lighting should never be underestimated. Different types of bulbs can have a significant impact on the aesthetics of any room and this is due to the CRI. Any given light source has the ability to uncover the natural colours of objects when exposed to natural light e.g. when sun light enters a room through a window and hits any surface.
Different types of bulb, of course, reproduce the colour rendering of objects within its vicinity with varying degrees of accuracy. Ideally, bulbs will be able to reproduce lighting which matches the natural light filtering into the room to create bright and clear surroundings. Halogen bulbs have always ruled the roost when it comes to CRI with their scores regularly reaching around 100, the highest quality of light available. In the past, LED lights have fared slightly less well and have only managed to average a CRI of between 80 and 90. This has led to interior settings suffering from colours which are dulled and unappealing.
Due to the innovative designs of Lutron and Orluna, though, their LED lights are capable of achieving a CRI score of 98. Not only does this come remarkably close to equalling the specs of halogen lights, but it ensures that the energy efficiency of LED lights can now be combined with a fantastic reproduction of natural light.
Moving to LED Lights
Lutron and Orluna are top lighting brands transforming modern lighting into a clearer, brighter and more manageable landscape as a result of their desire to match the best aspects of halogen bulbs. What’s most exciting about these new LED designs is that they can be effortlessly integrated into any smart home or business.
Tapping into a more environmentally conscious society and maintaining the quality associated with halogen lights, Lutron and Orluna have delivered advancements in lighting that cannot be ignored.
